ܘܗܘܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܚܕ ܡܢ ܪܡܬܐ ܕܕܘܩ̈ܐ ܡܢ ܛܘܪܐ ܕܐܦܪܝܡ ܘܫܡܗ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܒܪ ܝܪܚܘܡ ܒܪ ܐܠܝܗܘ ܒܪ ܬܚܘ ܒܪ ܨܘܦ ܐܦܪܬܝܐ

Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite.

ܘܐܝܬ ܗ̈ܘܝ ܠܗ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܢܫ̈ܝܢ ܫܡܗ̇ ܕܚܕܐ ܚܢܐ ܘܫܡܗ̇ ܕܐܚܪܬܐ ܦܢܢܐ ܘܗܘܘ ܠܦܢܢܐ ܒ̈ܢܝܐ ܘܠܚܢܐ ܠܝܬ ܠܗ̇ ܒ̈ܢܝܐ

He had two wives. The name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah. Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

ܘܣ̇ܠܩ ܗܘܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܗܘ ܡܢ ܩܪܝܬܗ ܡܢ ܥܕܢ ܠܥܕܢ ܠܡܣܓܕ ܘܠܡܕܒܚܘ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܨܒܐܘܬ ܒܫܝܠܘ ܘܬܡܢ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܘ ܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܥܠܝ ܚܦܢܝ ܘܦܝܢܚܝܣ ܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܠܡܪܝܐ

This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

ܘܗܘܐ ܝܘܡܐ ܘܕܒܚ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܦܢܢܐ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܠܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܒ̈ܢܝܗ̇ ܘܒ̈ܢܬܗ̇ ܝܗܒ ܡ̈ܢܘܬܐ

When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and her daughters;

ܘܠܚܢܐ ܝܗܒ ܡܢܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܐܥܦܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܚܢܐ ܪܚ̇ܡ ܗܘܐ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܐܚܕ ܪܚܡܗ̇

but he gave a double portion to Hannah, for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.

ܘܡܪܓܙܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ̇ ܥܪܬܗ̇ ܐܦ ܡܪܓܙܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܬܟܪܐ ܠܗ̇ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܚܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܒܐ̈ܦܝ ܡܪܒܥܗ̇

Her rival provoked her severely, to irritate her, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.

ܘܗܟܢܐ ܥܒܕܐ ܗܘܬ ܦܢܢܐ ܟܠ ܫܢܐ ܒܫܢܐ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܕܣܠܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܗܟܢܐ ܡܪܓܙܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ̇ ܘܒܟܬ ܚܢܐ ܘܠܐ ܠܥܣܬ

So year by year, when she went up to Yahweh’s house, her rival provoked her. Therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ̇ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܒܥܠܗ̇ ܚܢܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܒܟܝܐ ܐܢܬܝ ܘܐܝܟܘ ܠܐ ܠܥܣܬܝ ܘܠܡܢܐ ܒܝܫ ܠܒܟܝ ܗܐ ܐܢܐ ܛܒ ܐܢܐ ܠܟܝ ܡܢ ܥܣܪ̈ܐ ܒܢܝ̈ܢ

Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

ܘܩܡܬ ܚܢܐ ܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܕܠܥܣܬ ܒܫܝܠܘ ܘܡܢ ܒܬܪ ܕܐܫܬܝܬ ܘܣܠܩܬ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܠܝ ܟܗܢܐ ܝܬ̇ܒ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܟܘܪܣܝܐ ܥܠ ܐܣܟܘܦܬܐ ܕܗܝܟܠܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ

So Hannah rose up after they had finished eating and drinking in Shiloh. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

ܘܕܝܠܗ̇ ܡܪܝܪܐ ܢܦܫܗ̇ ܘܡܨܠܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܡܒܟܐ ܒܟܝܐ ܗܘܬ
hwth bky' wmbk' mry' qdm hwth wmtsly' npshh mryr' wdylh
She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, weeping bitterly.

ܘܢܕܪܬ ܢܕܪܐ ܘܐܡܪܬ ܡܪܝܐ ܨܒܐܘܬ ܐܢ ܡܚܙܐ ܬܚܙܐ ܒܫܘܥܒܕܗ̇ ܕܐܡܬܟ ܘܬܬܕܟܪܝܢܝ ܘܠܐ ܬܛܥܐ ܠܐܡܬܟ ܘܬܬܠ ܠܐܡܬܟ ܙܪܥܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܐܬܠܝܘܗܝ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܟܠ ܝܘܡ̈ܝ ܚܝ̈ܘܗܝ ܘܡܕܟܝܐ ܠܐ ܢܣܩ ܥܠ ܪܝܫܗ

She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look at the affliction of your servant and remember me, and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܐܣܓܝܬ ܠܡܨܠܝܘ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܠܝ ܢ̇ܛܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܦܘܡܗ̇

As she continued praying before Yahweh, Eli saw her mouth.

ܘܚܢܐ ܒܠܒܗ̇ ܗܘ ܡܡܠܠܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܘܣ̈ܦܘܬܗ̇ ܗܘ ܙܝ̈ܥܢ ܗ̈ܘܝ ܘܩܠܗ̇ ܠܐ ܡܫܬܡܥ ܗܘܐ ܘܚܫܒܗ̇ ܥܠܝ ܐܝܟ ܪܘܝܐ

Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she was drunk.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ̇ ܥܠܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܐܡܬܝ ܡܬܪܘܝܐ ܐܢܬܝ ܐܦܝܓܝ ܚܡܪܟܝ ܡܢܟܝ

Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Get rid of your wine!”

ܥܢܬ ܚܢܐ ܘܐܡܪܬ ܠܗ ܠܐ ܡܪܝ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܐܢܐ ܥܝܝܩܬ ܪܘܚܐ ܘܚܡܪܐ ܘܫܟܪܐ ܠܐ ܐܫܬܝܬ ܘܐܫܕܬ ܢܦܫܝ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ

Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have not been drinking wine or strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

ܠܐ ܬܚܫܒܝܗ̇ ܠܐܡܬܟ ܩܕܡܝܟ ܒܪܬ ܚܛܗܐ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܡܢ ܣܘܓܐܐ ܗܘ ܕܥܩܬܝ ܘܕܪܘܓܙܝ ܡܠܠܬ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ
lhsh' edm' mllth wdrwgzy deqthy hw swg'' dmn mTwl khTh' brth qdmyk l'mthk thkhshbyh l'
Don’t consider your servant a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

ܘܥܢܐ ܥܠܝ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ̇ ܙܠܝ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܘܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܢܬܠ ܫܐܠܬܟܝ ܕܫܐܠܬܝ ܡܢܗ
mnh dsh'lthy sh'lthky nthl d'ysryl w'lh' bshlm' zly lh w'mr ely wen'
Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܬܫܟܚ ܐܡܬܟ ܪ̈ܚܡܐ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟ ܘܐܙܠܬ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܠܐܘܪܚܗ̇ ܘܐ̈ܦܝܗ̇ ܠܐ ܙܥ ܠܗ̇ ܬܘܒ

She said, “Let your servant find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.

ܘܩܕܡܘ ܒܨܦܪܐ ܘܣܓܕܘ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܗܦܟܘ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܠܒܝܬܗܘܢ ܠܪܡܬܐ ܘܚܟܡ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܠܚܢܐ ܐܢܬܬܗ ܘܐܬܕܟܪܗ̇ ܡܪܝܐ

They rose up in the morning early and worshiped Yahweh, then returned and came to their house to Ramah. Then Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

ܘܗܘܐ ܠܙܒܢܐ ܕܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܘܒܛܢܬ ܚܢܐ ܘܝܠܕܬ ܒܪܐ ܘܩܪܬ ܫܡܗ ܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܫܐܠܬܗ
sh'lthh mry' dmn mTl shmw'yl shmh wqrth br' wyldth khn' wbTnth dywmth' lzbn' whw'
When the time had come, Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

ܘܣܠܩ ܓܒܪܐ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܒܝܬܗ ܠܡܕܒܚܘ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܕܒܚ̈ܐ ܕܝܘܡ̈ܬܐ ܕܢܕܪܗ

The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice and his vow.

ܘܚܢܐ ܠܐ ܣܠܩܬ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܡܪܬ ܠܒܥܠܗ̇ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܢܬܚܣܠ ܛܠܝܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܘܢܬܚܙܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܢܬܒ ܬܡܢ ܠܥܠܡ

But Hannah didn’t go up, for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ̇ ܗܠܩܢܐ ܒܥܠܗ̇ ܥܒܕܝ ܐܝܟ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܒܥܝܢ̈ܝܟܝ ܬܒܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܬܚܣܠܝܢܗ ܒܪܡ ܢܫ̇ܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܡܠܬܟܝ ܘܝܬܒܬ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܐܝܢܩܬ ܒܪܗ̇ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܚܣܠܬܗ

Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son until she weaned him.

ܘܐܣܩܬܗ ܥܡܗ̇ ܟܕ ܚܣܠܬܗ ܒܬܘܪܐ ܬܘܠܬܐ ܘܣܐܬܐ ܚܕܐ ܕܩܡܚܐ ܘܓܪܒܐ ܚܕ ܕܚܡܪܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܬܗ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܫܝܠܘ ܘܛܠܝܐ ܛܠܐ ܗܘܐ
hw' Tl' wTly' lshylw dmry' lbythh w'ythythh dkhmr' khd wgrb' dqmkh' khd' ws'th' thwlth' bthwr' khslthh kd emh w'sqthh
When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah of meal, and a container of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

ܘܢܟܣܘ ܬܘܪܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܘܗܝ ܠܛܠܝܐ ܠܥܠܝ

They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.

ܘܐܡܪܬ ܚܢܐ ܠܥܠܝ ܒܥܝܐ ܐܢܐ ܡܢܟ ܡܪܝ ܚܝܐ ܗܝ ܢܦܫܟ ܡܪܝ ܐܢܐ ܗ̣ܝ ܗ̇ܝ ܐܢܬܬܐ ܕܩܝܡܐ ܗܘܝܬ ܥܡܟ ܗܪܟܐ ܠܡܨܠܝܘ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' qdm lmtslyw hrk' emk hwyth dqym' 'nthth' hy hy 'n' mry npshk hy khy' mry mnk 'n' bey' lely khn' w'mrth
She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.

ܥܠ ܛܠܝܐ ܗܢܐ ܘܨܠܝܬ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܝ ܡܪܝܐ ܫܐܠܬܝ ܕܫܐܠܬ ܡܢܗ

I prayed for this child, and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.
